My name is Dixie Pond. I am a tax attorney/editor living in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Social dancing has helped me find joy on my saddest days, friendship on my loneliest, and a mixture of lightness and laughter on my heaviest. There are so many things I love about dancing. I love the mixture creativity, athleticism, and connection. I love learning about the history of each dance – the influences, and getting to each dance’s essence. I love the balance between order and chaos in each dance. I love the chance to create something new and unique with each person I dance with. I love the ephemerality of a good dance. But what I love most is that it makes me feel present more than anything else in my life.

I started Dance the District in 2018. I hoped it would be a resource for the social dancing community in the D.C. metro area. Unfortunately, due to time constraints (i.e., I would rather be dancing most of the time than writing about it). I haven’t been able to maintain this website in the way that I originally envisioned. But now it’s evolved into something much more personal and dear to my heart. It’s sort of a personal blog that’s really heavily dance focused? Something like that? I’m still working on it.

Please reach out if you would like to chat about dancing (or anything else!).
